While lunching today at the sports bar down the street, we couldn’t help but watch college calf and goat roping, an exercise infomercial, baseball and news about NOLA. I work with people who have decades of experience in social services and social justice and one of the things we discussed is how those who live in the areas hardest hit by the hurricane are the poorest people. These are the people that probably won’t be back to their homes (in this case home means the feeling of home not the structure they once lived in that’s now washed down the street) because when the city is rebuilt will poor people get first dibs or will high dollar developers get the first crack? I think we all know the answer.
How do you like these apples?
