Over the weekend the better-half and I were talking about feet and how I think I’m about to have an ingrown nail on the second toe of my left foot. No matter how carefully I keep that nail trimmed it will turn on me every few months or so. Here’s my theory on why that toe nail is doomed.
My second toe on both feet is almost a quarter of an inch longer than my big toe. I’m freakish like that. I think because of that length my toe hits the ends of my shoes and that causes my nail to get shoved down into the nail bed. Of course, there’s another equally probable theory and that’s my preferred way of sitting.
If I’m not wearing shoes, I will invariably turn the toes of my left foot under and will rest with the top of my foot on the floor. I have a callous on the top of my foot directly below the space between my second and third toes. I also have calluses on the knuckle part of all the toes on my left foot. I don’t know why I do this but it is really, really comfortable. My right foot fits perfectly in what I call the palm of my left foot. I think that explains why my right foot has no issues with calluses or jammed toe nails because it sits nestled on my left foot or sometimes across my heel.
With all of this revealed you won’t be surprised that I’ve never had a pedicure. There are two reasons for this. I don’t want to have to explain about the callous and a pedicure means someone has to get into my personal-space bubble and there are very few people allowed into that bubble.
