Quick Brown Firefox

I’m finally getting used to opening new tabs instead of new windows while using Firefox. I’m still experiencing “doh” moments when I pull my mouse down to find the other webpage I was browsing–that’s usually when I say to myself “nitwit, it’s on the tab bar”.

I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time this afternoon looking for a way to alter a private webpage. I have a page where I list the blogs I like to read on a regular basis. I have this private page so that I can just click on the blog I want and not have to shuffle through my really long bookmark list. I want to be able to select a link and have a new tab open…not a new window.

I realize that I could just right-click on the link and then choose from the menu that I want to open the link in a new tab. But, that requires me unlearning something and that is unacceptable. I’ve spent too much time using the left-click motion to open new windows to suddenly have to switch to a right-click, then a menu selection.

If tabbing is the wave of the future, then why can’t I use “target=_tab”?

P.S. Yes, I use a FeedReader and, yes, for those blogs that do not have syndication I have set Firefox to notify me. But, I want to be able to click and have this “tool” do what I want. I’m sick of “tools” that require me to change. It is time for software to be sensitive to my usability rules and not the other way around. Whew, who knew a mini-rant was in the offing?

P.P.S. Don’t get me started on why the Bold, Italic, Underline and URL buttons are missing when I view movabletype with Firefox.
