Yesterday the basement was finished. I’ll have more about that over in the House Proud section later. I’m so excited that space will soon be really and truly ours and not something akin to a jail cell.
We worked on some of the already downed trees (thanks to Isabel-that witch) and decided that the trees that have popped their root balls should go ahead and meet the chainsaw since they’ll eventually go over. We successfully got one tree to fall in the forest (and, lo, we heard it). Another tree has been dangling a hugemongous limb over our driveway since the hurricane and we decided to tackle that tree too.
I should point out that tree is easily 50 feet tall and twisty and, as I mentioned, dangling a huge branch. That S-O-B tree split from the cut up about 15 feet and bent over. Which is fairly freaking dangerous. Never mind that the top of the tree got hung up in some healthy trees. The better half cut part of the split piece off so it wouldn’t spring back and hit him in the head and then worked on the other part of the tree. It fell some more and is now so firmly wedged into other trees and its own cut trunk that we’re going to have to call in professionals. Of course, halfway through this ordeal I remembered that our cars are at the house and the tree is between our house and the road. I ran to get the car and did a Speed Racer maneuver under the tree-gravel flying. We eventually moved the truck to the other side as well.
Last night we babysat the Niece and it was big fun. Until bedtime. I’d been warned about the crying after you leave the room but I was unprepared for the calling out of my name. It is rough having a 2-year old (today’s her birthday) call you out for being a big meany by putting her to bed. I had to get out of earshot.
