Weekend Roundup

We made dinner for Valentine’s and spent the day mostly at the homestead. We did head out to the liquor store to stock up on the very necessary bourbon. This is what we cooked up for V-Day: baked brie (with garlic and almonds), caesar salad with homemade dressing and croutons, cream of asparagus soup with smoked oysters and oysters florentine served over penne. Check out the recipes here.

Yesterday we visited with my sister, her husband and The Niece. The Niece is in a big girl bed now and we had to check that out and we were quite impressed. She and I had some imaginary tea and supped on plastic food. She also made sure I ate one strip of real shredded cheese. I think she is worried I’ll starve. She should take a good look–there’s no starving going on here.

Last night I set-up the DSS to record Sex and the City (we tape because invariably the phone rings) and that stupid hunk of crap didn’t turn on the VCR. It does that sometimes–I could see the DSS receiver send the signal to the VCR (it tried twice) and I could see the VCR ignore it. With lightning quick fingers I pressed Record and then turned off the VCR manually at 9:31pm. What is HBO’s problem letting that show go to 9:32? That’s what I get for turning off the VCR before turning the TV back on to make sure that I manually did what the freaking equipment is supposed to do. So, I’m taping tonight AGAIN and I’m taping for 5 minutes over the allotted time to take into account all kinds of cable company shenanigans.

And, while I’m at it (on the television rant): ER starts a minute before 10. That stinks but not as much as Carter spending $9K to get to the gate to say goodbye to the mother of his unborn child again. Dude say goodbye like the rest of us. So he has to buy a ticket to get to the gate because of security measures now in place but he doesn’t actually have to get on his flight because why? Isn’t that one of the signs of a terrorist that they buy a ticket and then not take the seat on the flight? Isn’t that why flights got cancelled over the holiday? Maybe next week we’ll see Carter pulled out of the ER and dragged to Guantanamo.
