Yesterday when I got home from work there was a notice from FedEx stuck to the door. Oh happy day, our new phones had arrived. I raced into the house and called the better-half to let him know that we had to get over to the Fed Ex place to pick up our phones. We ordered them on November 21st so we’ve been waiting for this day for awhile.
We’re now the proud owners of Blackberry Storms and it’s like we just jumped 20 years into the future from our old free Nokias that did nothing except make and receive calls. When we got home and were able to open the phone boxes, silence fell and then we spent the next several minutes saying things like “cool”, “oh wow”, “I love this phone”. Yep, we just walked into the 21st century. It’s nice here.
Jim has a Blackberry and it drives me crazy. He gets a lot of emails because it’s his work number and he’s constantly on that thing. Seems to me there should be work hours and leisure hours (like when we are out to dinner). But then, I only have an old Samsung that does nothing but text and make and receive calls. Definitely uncool.
It will be interesting to see how our behaviors change now that we have phones that do things. I left mine off all day today because I just hate it when people talk on their personal phones at work (maybe it’s just personal calls that go on forever that I don’t like). I did call the better-half on his today but he’s at a client site and that’s the only way to get in touch.
As long as you don’t become one of those couples that goes out and spends all their time emailing other people on the Blackberries rather than talking to each other you should be fine. Jim’s phone is his business line and personal line and he can’t seem to separate the two, which would normally be fine but when we go out, I’d like to not have to compete with it.
Watch out… your life will never be the same! I sleep next to mine and often roll over and delete junk mail in the middle of the night! I love technology!! Not so sure hubby does!
I can honestly say I haven’t looked at the phone at all today. I did send my first text yesterday. It’s all about the baby steps (ha).
I don’t know that we’ll be consumed though. When the better-half and I were dating he had to wear a pager and it always seemed to go off in the middle of Saturday night and then he’d have to talk to the idiot who was working the night shift. I think because of this we both don’t like the idea of letting a tool put a leash on us.
