And A Game Broke Out

We did this last night with a friend:

In the first period two guys had some run-in during the part where the ref drops the puck and a fight broke out. But the fight wasn’t really spontaneous. The guys threw their gloves and helmets off and then skated backwards so they could get some distance between each other and roll up their sleeves. Um, I’m no expert but if you have time to roll up your sleeves, then you aren’t really mad. You are giving the crowd a show. Both guys went into penalty and the game moved on.

The local boys rallied but still lost by one goal. The crowd got their hate on the refs and after every period the crowd yelled, “You Suck” when the refs came back on the ice.

To sum it up: pretty exciting game, overpriced concession, Yuengling on tap, I want to drive a Zamboni.

Driving a Zamboni would be awesome fun.

The only hockey game I ever went to was up in Rochester (home of Genessee Cream Ale) back in the mid-80′s. Ronnie Reagan was the president and came to the game to give a speech. The team was called the Rochester Americans, Amercs for short.

During his speech, Ronnie flubbled the name of the team (how hard was it to remember “Americans” for god’s sake!!) and called them the ‘Mercs.

We never called them anything else after that…with a chuckle!!
