At Least I’m Being Honest

I’ve noticed that lots of people use the phrase “at least you’re honest”. What does that mean exactly? In the context I’ve heard I usually take it to mean I just can’t believe you fucking said that and this is the best thing I can think to say because now I believe you are a stupid, whiny freak and I really want to back away from you as fast as I can. Of course, that could just be my interpretation.

The other day I was at a seminar about how to incorporate group activities in the college classroom and a psychology professor said that he ultimately really wants his students to like him so they’ll give him a good review. That’s when the woman sitting next to me said, “at least you’re being honest”. What I immediately thought was what a lame-ass baby boomer freak, you don’t belong in the classroom. Grow up. Do your job well and teach these kids how to critically think and grow up to be better than you. He just wants people to like him? Sounds to me he should turn that psychology degree on himself and start a little self-examination.

You know, I’m just being honest.
