First Day of School

Yesterday afternoon I had my first class and against my better judgment I took a seat in the back of the room. We’re changing classrooms next week to our permanent location so, perhaps, I can put in another effort at behaving and sitting closer to the front. As it was, two other people from my organization are also in the class and they sat next to me. We acted a little like the peanut gallery. As the class was very interactive last night, our behavior wasn’t really too out there.

The class participants are very varied in age, race, sex and professional status. I think that’s going to work to our advantage. We should be able to have great discussions on the different types of adult learners since we’re all so different in other aspects of our lives.

I started off very energized and then started to doubt the wisdom of my choice to take this course. We’re going to have to talk in “scholarly language” and quote the “great minds”. I’m a put-it-into-practical-terms kind of girl.

One of our first activities was to go around the room and introduce ourselves. I’m always suspicious of the one person in every group who introduces themselves towards the end and says something like “I’m so fascinated by the people in this room and hope to have great conversations with you”. Yeah, quit sucking my dick and just tell us your name and why you are taking the class. Move it on, sister.

I envy you. I wish I had the guts to take a class again after all these years. I keep hoping something will strike my fancy and get me interested enough to consider it. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble getting a C. You may even get an easy A. Good luck!

Do you get to take classes for FREE since you work at the college?

  3. Frog says:

Yep, as long as I get a C or better the tuition is free. I still had to pay for books. One of my benefits.
