The Swamp Thing

I don’t think I’ve mentioned that we have a jetted tub in our master bath. I’m not much of a bath taker but I figure, what the heck, a whirpool bath might change my mind. During the inspection of the house, the inspector started up the bathtub and it filled with icky gunk from the pipes. The inspector told us that happens when a jetted tub isn’t used. Since the house had been empty for about six months, it made sense that the tub would look like crap the first time we ran it.

Cut to today. I’ve run bleach through the pipes twice, used some anti-algae stuff for spas and sent a little bit of dishwasher detergent through the mix. The tub is running now and there’s still little bits of brown gunk floating around. The flecks aren’t nearly as big or as plentiful as when I started this process today. Still not something I want to soak in, though. Is this one of those rinse and repeat things? Any suggestions?

We moved into a home with a jetted tub that hadn’t been used in months either. We have tried bleach, soap, running it over and over again and after a year we still get bits of gunk also. I gave up, my husband thinks that pool shock might work. We will try it next. Good Luck! If you find something that works, PLEASE let us know. Thanks

I’ll see about the pool shock–I didn’t use the whole container of that spa stuff all at once but am thinking I will the next go around. Good luck with your problem tub.
