Today a friend took me out to lunch as a thank you for some assistance I gave her a week ago. She’s hoping to get a much better and well deserved new job and I helped her with her resume.
We went to lunch at PF Chang’s and it was pretty darn delicious. It was the first time I’ve ever been to a PF Chang’s because until recently there wasn’t one in town and I had either never paid attention to them while in other cities or just didn’t know what it was. I got the orange peel beef and brown rice. She got a chicken peanut salad. We split some steamed veggie dumplings and an order of spring rolls. I thought my dish was outstanding with a good mix of spicy and I love that concentrated orange taste. We decided that the chicken on her salad actually detracted from the salad. My advice is to avoid it.
While we were there we noticed some people at other tables, ok we were doing some major people watching, and some of those people were using terrible table manners– picking up soup bowls and slurping from them; using the table as a prop for their tired weary bodies; using their laps as props for their really, really tired weary bodies; and not putting their napkins in the lap. Please, I hate to sound like what everyone’s mother should have sounded like, but sit up straight; keep your other hand in your lap and chew with your mouth closed.
As a fellow Richmonder (Chesterfield, really), I must tell you that I love love love PF Changs. I even had my suprise birthday there in Jan. I hadn’t noticed the manners – or lack thereof – but I will make it a point to notice the next time I’m there.
It was actually only one table of bad manners…some kind of work-related function. Everyone else was on good behaviour. I really liked Changs too and even though I live about 45 minutes away I’d go back in a heartbeat.
