In the Amazon shipment today, I received the “SAMS Teach Yourself Macromedia Flash MX in 24 Hours”. I’m only on Hour 2 and have learned quite a bit. One thing is really getting on my nerves and that’s the sloppy editing job. Page 45 has my eyes scrambling all over the page. There are extra spaces everywhere. It is like the writer used Word to create the document and then it was dumped into Quark, extra spaces were added and no one cleaned it up. Page 6 and page 27 have text in boxes that should be all together on one page. Don’t get me started on words that have no spaces between them. Itiskind of likereading this sentence–possible, yes, but annoying.
If I can use Quark to create manuals then professionals at book publishing houses certainly should know how to use it or PageMaker. And, they should know how to use it well.
I’m hoping that the book will get better as I get to other chapters. The other SAMS book I have started out well-edited and ended up a little sloppy (Teach Yourself Dreamweaver). I can only assume that if you hire talented people and pay them, they’ll do a good job. Just a little unsolicited advice.
