Mr. Gershwin

Today is the completion anniversary of “Porgy and Bess”. Gershwin signed his name today in 1935 and declared the score complete. I have never seen this musical performed but it includes one of my all-time favorite songs, “Summertime”. Every rendition I’ve ever heard of this song makes me like it (except, perhaps, the midi version I heard a few years ago). If you haven’t heard Janis Joplin’s version, you should seek it out. I’m not a huge Janis fan (don’t shoot me) but, man, she can wring that song out.
